Diana Hendricks | Things I Carry
I am a Nikon and Apple loyalist. My warhorse camera is a Nikon D750 with a Nikkor 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 lens. I have several other lenses, but this is my go-to lens. There's always something new on the horizon. My current back up is a sturdy little D7500. (Thanks to LensRentals, who will ship equipment to me lickety-split, in Texas, Kaua'i and beyond.) My go-to lenses are the Nikon AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II, and the Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR-II.
My office computer setup is a spiffy MacBookPro with a big Apple monitor, three external storage disks, Apple iCloud and Dropbox. I read most books for pleasure on an iPad and savor the smell of real books and printer's ink. Between DropBox and iCloud, I am separating myself from hard drives. Software? I love the new Creative Suites , and use Quark 10 (though I am dragging my feet and moving toward InDesign ).
Lots of great content management systems have come into play in recent years for web design, ranging from WordPress to Wix and Weebly, and they are developing some impressive templates and plugins. I love using them for clients who want great design and easy-to-learn content management systems. But I am grateful to remember just enough old school HTML for coloring outside the lines, when I want to tweak this or control that just a bit,

Tricks of the trade...
“What makes a good shot into a great picture?”
Is it timing? Equipment? Knowledge? Soul? Software? Eye? Experience? Luck? Yes. All of the above. I have been lucky enough to have some great mentors, and to learn from some very successful photographers, both formally and informally. Today, with online classes and webinars readily available, and at any given time, we stay on top of the latest technology. We can sit at our computers in our pajamas and learn from Scott Kelby or David Busch. And Amazon will even deliver stacks of “how-to” books to our front door overnight! With the magic of digital photography, we can take 1000 pictures to get the one good shot - and review and adjust what we are shooting in the field. And presto! Well, maybe. But then what? Shooting the picture is only the first step. Then, there’s the follow through. How many compact flash cards and memory sticks do you have floating around with images from the Grand Canyon vacation, the birthday party or who knows what, waiting like unprocessed film, for someone to upload, cull, and complete the job. Ready - aim - shoot.... But don’t forget the follow-through. Get up and go do it now. |
