Strike A Pose... Some of our most cherished memories are captured on these pages through the magic of digital photography.
Sometimes I wish we could go back and relive those memories one more time. Then I hold these photos in my hands and do. Trekking across dunes and through sandbars, holding camera equipment up when waves crash into the shore, capturing peach harvests and wine festivals, celebrations of life and final resting spots are all wishes come true. I’ve been privileged to have a front row/ back stage seat for a lot of great music so far in my life, and am ever grateful for that experience. Along the way, I have worked with some of the most talented writers, artists, musicians and photographers in the business, some of whom are mentioned on these pages. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Thanks for allowing us to share them with you. It's (not exactly) like riding a bike...![]() Pirate's Alley off Jackson Square, NOLA
I started college in 1975. Two years later I quit to join the circus that was the Progressive Music Moment in Texas History, promising my mother I would go back and finish. A few decades later, I went back to college to earn a Master's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Texas Music and Texas Culture, marking 39 years from the day I started school at Southwest Texas State University until I walked across the stage to receive my final (Master's) degree from what is now Texas State University.
Note: My mother was on hand to see both the Bachelor's and Master's commencement ceremonies. Going back to school was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I got to take classes like "Popular Music and Social Movements in the 20th Century," and spend hours to the Southwestern Writers Collection in the Wittliff Gallery poking through the archives, reading the personal papers and scraps and doodles of writers I have admired for decades. So it's not exactly like riding a bike. But it was fun. I pedaled through the classes I loved, and had to get off and push my way up a hill or two along the way. Elsewhere in this website, I have posted papers that have been or will be published - and maybe even a few that I just wish would be published. If you want info about the Interdisciplinary Studies program, the Wittliff Collection or the Center for Texas Music History, give me a shout. I love to tell people about Texas State. Go Bobcats! Connecting the dots...
I have been blessed with some really great jobs. Some have felt more like play than work. Yeah, some days were longer than others, and some deadlines snuck up on me, but some stories touched my heart, and some projects have hung on like an old song that
rattles around the corners of my mind.
